How to Fix a PS2 Slim Disk Read Error

The Sony PlayStation 2 Slim is a newer release of the popular PS2 gaming platform. The device is smaller than the original PS2 so it doesn't take up as much room in your entertainment center. As with the original PS2, it is possible to receive a disk read error message. This message is typically due to either a problem with the disc itself or the interior of the drive being dirty. Whatever the reason, you should be able to correct the issue on your own.

Instructions

    • 1

Eject the disc from your PS2 Slim disc drive. Look over the bottom of the disc. If it is dirty, wipe it off with a damp cloth. The PS2 skips when playing a dirty disc, and you may receive the disk read error message on your television when attempting to use it.

Spray a few shots of compressed air into the disc drive of the PS2 Slim. This removes any dust stuck to the lens of the system. When dust collects on the drive's lens, it prevents the gaming system from reading the inserted disc.

Remove any home-created DVDs from the disc drive of your PS2 Slim. Occasionally the PS2 has trouble reading these self-rendered DVDs, causing the system to display a disc read error message.

Flip the PS2 Slim onto its side so the disc drive opens horizontally instead of vertically. Occasionally the disc may slide out of place when positioned straight up. Allowing gravity to work with the disc by placing the device on its side is helpful in correcting the PS2 Slim disk read error messages.
