How to Troubleshoot a Wireless Guitar on Guitar Hero III for the PS2

Activision released Guitar Hero III on a number of consoles and systems in 2007. The game is available as a bundle and can be used with wireless guitars released prior to Guitar Hero III that are compatible with the Playstation 2. The Playstation 2 version of Guitar Hero III cannot be played online, unlike the other console versions, and features lower quality graphics. Otherwise, the basic gameplay is the same.

Instructions

    • 1

Flip your controller so that you can access the battery panel. Open the battery panel, and remove the old batteries. Replace them with fresh, recently recharged rechargeable batteries or with unused regular batteries. Close the battery panel.

    • 2

Plug the wireless receiver into the first controller port on your Playstation 2.

    • 3

      Turn on your Playstation 2.

    • 4

Press the red fret button on your wireless guitar to power it on.

    • 5

Hold down the wireless receiver's button for 3 seconds or so, then press the red fret button on on the guitar to sync the controller with the receiver.

    • 6

Insert your Guitar Hero III disc. Use the fret buttons and the strum bar to navigate the menus. Play a song to determine if there is a problem with your guitar when playing the game.

    • 7

Reposition your Playstation 2 if you lose your connection or if the response is slow. Ensure that there are no metal objects within two feet of the console or wireless receiver.

    • 8

Position yourself closer to the Playstation 2 if you continue to experience connection problems. Ensure that there is a clear line of sight between the receiver and the wireless guitar.

    • 9

Reposition cordless phone bases, wireless routers and other other devices that operate on the 2.4 GHz frequency; they may interfere with your wireless guitar's signal when playing Guitar Hero III.

    • 10

Press back the lever on the back of your wireless guitar's neck if you have a model with a removable neck. Remove the neck, reinsert it and attempt to play Guitar Hero III again.

    • 11

Contact Activision support if you cannot fix your wireless guitar. Depending on the age of your wireless guitar and your warranty, Activision may be able to replace your guitar.
