How to Fix Your PS2 If it Can't Read the Game, CD or Movie

The optical disc drive that is inside a Sony PlayStation 2 video game system isn&'t all that different from the same type of drive that can be found in most computers. If your PS2 has stopped reading game, CD or movie discs, it means that the drive&'s laser lens is dirty. You can clean this laser lens using a specially designed kit found in most electronics retailers that sell video game or computer equipment.

  Turn on your Sony PlayStation 2. Press the "Eject" button to eject the optical disc drive tray.

  Insert your CD/DVD laser lens cleaning kit disc into the PS2&'s disc tray. Make sure the side of the disc that contains the specialized brushes is facing downward.

  Close the disc tray. Allow the disc to spin inside your PlayStation 2 for 30 seconds to one minute.

  Take the cleaning disc out of your PlayStation 2 and replace it with a game, CD or movie disc. See if the disc works properly. If it doesn&'t, take it out and replace it and attempt to use the cleaning disc again.
