How to Connect Two PlayStation 2 Games Together

Many Sony PlayStation 2 games allow for two systems to connect together to play the same game. It requires both systems being connected with the same game being placed into each system. Once that is done, players have the ability to play against each other or on a team. To see if a game allows for this, check for a "LAN," or Local Area Connection, functionality on the back of the game's box.

Things You'll Need

  • iLink
  • Cat 5 crossover cable
  • PS2 network start-up disc

Instructions

  1. Big PS2

    • 1

Connect the iLink cable into the PS2's connector labeled "S400."

    • 2

Turn on the systems and place the same game into both systems.

    • 3

Select multiplayer, then "LAN." The systems will "see" each other automatically, allowing players to play on separate TVs.

    Slim PS2

    • 4

Connect a Cat 5 crossover cable into the ethernet ports of both PS2s. A Cat 5 crossover cable is a special version of an ethernet cable designed for system links.

    • 5

Place the PS2 network start-up disc into the first PS2. Go to "Manual Settings." Enter "10.10.100.1" for the IP Address, "255.255.255.0" for the Netmask, "255.255.255.0" for the Default Router Address, "216.99.193.19" for the Primary DNS Address and "216.99.193.2" for the Secondary DNS Address. Save the options.

Put the start-up disc into the second PS2. Go into "Manual Settings" and enter the same settings as the first PS2, but change the IP Address to "10.10.100.2." Save the options.

Place the same game into both systems. Go to the game's multiplayer LAN options, and the game will recognize the other system.
