How to Play an AVI on a PS2

The Playstation 2 was released in 2000 and was noted for its DVD-playing capability. Many movies today stored on your computer may be saved in .avi format, but you may wish to watch these movies, which can be downloaded or recorded using a digital camcorder, on your TV. Luckily, with the help of a simple video converter and DVD burner, you can put those .avi movie files on a DVD which can be easily played by your Playstation 2.

Things You'll Need

Playstation 2 with controller or DVD remote
Video conversion software
PC with DVD burner
DVD-R disc

Instructions

  Download and install a video converter. By default, the Playstation 2 will not play burned .avi files so they must be converted to DVD format first. A recommendation would be the "Easy MPEG/AVI/DIVX/WMV/RM to DVD 1.8.9," which can be found on Download.com and must be purchased.

  Open the DVD converter and browse for your .avi files on your computer. Use the software to convert the .avi file to DVD format. Depending on the software you use, instructions will vary.

  Insert your DVD-R into your computer's DVD-R drive and open your DVD burning software. Some .avi converters double as DVD burning software.

  Add the converted .avi files to your DVD and click "Burn." Once the DVD is burned, you can place it in your PS2 for viewing.
