Troubleshoot a Wired Guitar
Check connections. If you are using the multi-tap extender to connect more than two controllers to the system, make sure it is completely connected to the console, and then remove the guitar cord and plug it back in.
Make sure the correct disc is inserted into the tray. Rock Band peripherals work with the original Rock Band (as well as its sequel) and the first three Guitar Hero games for the PlayStation 2. The guitar will not work on any other rhythm-based game.
Clean around the buttons. If you have been using the guitar a lot, some dust or particulates may have gotten in between the buttons. To clean the guitar, disconnect it from the console and then use a rubbing-alcohol-dipped cotton swab to clean around the frets and the strum bar. Once it has been cleaned, try again.
Troubleshooting a Wireless Guitar
Check the batteries. Wireless instruments rely on battery power to work, so if you see a flashing indicator light when you turn on your wireless guitar--the problem most likely rests with dead batteries. Replace your old batteries and then try using the guitar again.
Re-sync your guitar with the PS2 wireless adapter (because the PlayStation 2 is not a wireless console, an adapter must be used to connect the wireless guitar to the console). Press the sync button on the adapter followed by the sync button on the guitar to connect the controller and the console. You should see an indicator light flash when a successful connection has been established.
Remove other wireless devices from the room. If you are using a Bluetooth wireless headset, or other wireless accessories in close proximity to the PlayStation 2, turn them off or move them to another room--as they could be interfering with the wireless signal.
