Creating an Idea
Every game starts off as an idea. The idea must be well thought out and structured like a business plan. It will list every idea for the game and how the development team will go about creating these ideas.
Securing a Team
A team of 3D artists, computer programmers and audio engineers is secured. These are the people who will create the game. It is mandatory that the team has a game background, preferably in the style of the game being produced. Hiring a programmer to code a racing game that only previously worked exclusively on fighting games may not be a suitable candidate.
Work Space
Development teams work together in a large office-type area where they discuss problems and ideas. A converted warehouse is a common place that is easily converted in a development office.
Developing the Game
Developing a game from scratch will take months upon months. It requires everyone to work hard and long. Do not rush production as it causes the game to not be as enjoyable and fun in the end.
Finding a Producer
Once the game is nearing completion, the director of development and his staff must figure out how the game will be distributed. Doing it themselves is extremely expensive, but if the game is successful, they will reap all of the benefits. Most developers find a production company like Activision or 505 Games to handle the production side. Once the game is finished, the game will be submitted to Sony for approval. Once it passes approval, the game goes into production as it is printed onto discs and sold in stores.
