How to Clean a PS2

The PlayStation 2 is one of the best-selling video game consoles of all time. The console debuted in 2000 and is still in production today in a slimmer design. The PS2 is a disc-based game system, meaning that it has a laser lens that reads data from a game disc in similar fashion to a CD or DVD player. All disc-based systems with a lens can experience problems when the lens gets covered with dust over time. Cleaning the PS2 to remove dust and dirt from it can be done fairly easily.

Instructions

    • 1

Wipe off the exterior of your PS2 with a soft, damp cloth to gently remove any accumulated dust.

    • 2

Open your PS2 and spray a small amount of compressed air into the PS2 to dislodge loose dust that has built up. Use the straw on the end of the can to keep the spray focused and don't insert the end of the can into the system. You don't need too much force, just a light spray to get dust out.

    • 3

Apply a small amount of lens cleaner to a lens cleaning disc. The disc has a small brush on it designed to remove dust from the lens; the liquid is an alcohol-based cleaner that also assists in dust removal.

    • 4

Insert the disc into your PS2 and turn the system on, allowing the disc to play for about 15 to 20 seconds. That will be sufficient to remove any dust build-up.

    • 5

Clean all your games by wiping them off with a soft cloth from the center of the disc out to the edge. Never clean your disc in a circular motion as this pushes dust into the grooves of the disc.
