Put a soft cloth on a table. Remove all cables from the PS2. Put the PS2 face down on the soft cloth. Insert the tip of the utility knife beneath one of the rubber feet at the corner on the PS2's bottom. Lift up on the tip of the utility knife to remove the rubber foot. Remove the three other rubber feet in the same manner.
Insert the tip of the utility knife beneath all of the plastic tabs on the PS2's bottom. Lift up on the tip of the utility knife to remove the plastic.
Remove the eight screws that are now revealed with the Torx screwdriver. Turn the PS2 back right side up on the soft cloth.
Pull the outer case off the PS2, starting from the back, using your hands. Lift up slowly on the outer case and place it next to the PS2. Push the disc eject button at the front right of the outer case through the hole so that it is free of the case. Lay the strip of plastic that the disc eject button is built on next to the PS2 on the soft cloth.
Remove the four screws from around the disc tray at the center of the PS2 with the Phillips jeweler's screwdriver. Lift the disc tray off the PS2 with your fingers.
Insert the tip of the Phillips jeweler's screwdriver into the hole directly to the right of the silver-edged disc spindle at the center of the PS2. Move the tip of the Phillips jeweler's screwdriver left and right until the disc eject nub pops out. Remove the Phillips jeweler's screwdriver.
Blow off the disc spindle with compressed air. Blow off the disc eject nub with compressed air. Push the disc eject nub back into the PS2 with your fingers. Release your fingers when the disc eject nub clicks into the PS2.
Put the disc tray back over the disk spindle. Reattach the screws. Blow off the disc eject button on the strip of plastic. Clean the edges of the strip of plastic with an edge of a lint-free cloth.
Blow off the back of the strip of plastic with the compressed air. Scrape the two connections on the back of the strip of plastic opposite the disc eject button with the tip of the utility knife.
Heat up the soldering iron. Strip a half-inch of insulation off of the two ends of the cable lying in the front right edge of the PS2 with the wire strippers. Solder the end of one of the electric wires to one of the contacts on the back of the strip of plastic. Let the solder cool for a minute.
Solder the end of the other electric wire to the other contact on the back of the strip of plastic. Let the solder cool for a minute.
Straighten the strip of plastic so that it is horizontal to the front edge of the PS2. Place the front of the outer case against the front of the strip of plastic. Push the disc eject button on the strip of plastic through the hole on the right side of the outer case. Slide the outer case back onto the PS2, holding the strip of plastic against the front of the outer case for as long as possible.
Turn the PS2 over. Reattach the screws to the bottom, Put a drop of white glue into the holes where the rubber feet and the plastic tabs go. Put the rubber feet and plastic tabs back onto the bottom of the PS2. Turn the PS2 right side up. Reattach the cables.
