How to Make a Homemade Slip Disc for a PS2 Slim

The PlayStation 2 Slim (PS2 Slim) can be modified to play backups of legally owned video games without opening the case or altering any of the electronic components. You will need to make a homemade slip disc, also called a Swap disc, that will negate the disc spindle of the DVD drive from spinning so that a backup disc can be replaced for the original during the game's boot-up process. You will need to download a program created by a PS2 enthusiast to a USB flash drive and also get a PlayStation 1 video game disc from a hobby or game store. Making a slip disc to use on the PS2 Slim does not void the game console's warranty.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Download a slip disc program to the computer's desktop; for example, the PS2 Hack program (see the link in Resources). Double-click on the file once it has downloaded to decompress it to a folder on the desktop.

    • 2

Insert the USB flash drive in a USB port of the computer. Wait for the icon of the USB flash drive to appear on the desktop.

    • 3

Double-click on the folder that was decompressed to open its window. Double-click on the slip disc program inside of the folder's window to launch the program.

    • 4

Select the USB flash drive from the "Devices" drop down menu. Click the "Create" or "Go" button on the slip disc program's main screen.

    • 5

Follow the menu commands to install the program and associated files to the USB flash drive. Quit the slip disc program once it states that it is finished.

    • 6

Insert a memory card into the slot in the memory card to USB adapter. Plug the USB cable of the memory card to USB adapter into a USB port of the computer. Wait for the icon of the memory card to appear on the desktop.

    • 7

Double-click on the icon of the USB flash drive to open its window. Drag the contents of the window onto the icon of the memory card. Wait for the files to copy to the memory card.

    • 8

Right-click on the icon of the USB flash drive. Select "Eject" from the pop-up menu. Remove the USB flash drive from the USB port of the computer.

    • 9

Right-click on the icon of the memory card. Select "Eject" from the pop-up menu. Remove the USB cable of the memory card to USB adapter from the USB port of the computer. Remove the memory card from the slot in the memory card to USB adapter.

    • 10

Plug the memory card into the PS2 Slim. Raise the lid of the PS2 Slim. Put the PlayStation 1 video game disc onto the DVD drive's disc spindle at the center of the PS2 Slim. Close the lid.

    • 11

Turn the PS2 on. Wait as the PlayStation 1 video game disc that is now a slip disc begins to spin and then stops spinning.

    • 12

Open the lid of the PS2. Remove the slip disc. Put a backup game onto the disc spindle.

    • 13

Close the lid. Wait as the backup game begins to spin. Play the backup game when its menu appears on the screen.
