How to Fix the Power Cable on a PS2

Because the PlayStation 2 game console is designed to be portable, wear and tear on the device can occur over time. One component of the console that is susceptible to damage is the power cord. This is mostly due to the fact that, unlike power cords on other electronic devices, the PS2 power cable is removable from the back of the device. Because it is constantly being moved around, it can become easily damaged. The good news is that you can fix a PS2 power cable yourself if you don't have the money to take it into the shop.

Instructions

    • 1

Make sure the power cable is plugged securely into its port in the back of the device. If this isn't the issue with the cord, then it is most likely a short in the wire. Proceed to step 2.

    • 2

Cut along the length of the PSP power cable with your wire stripper. Be careful not to cut the actual wires underneath the plastic wire sheath.

    • 3

Locate the short in the wire. It will be identifiable as a frayed or separated piece of wire somewhere along the cable.

    • 4

Cut the cable where the short is located and then strip about an inch of sheath of off the wires at either of the cut ends.

    • 5

Twist the metal wires together, making certain that they are completely connected.

    • 6

Wrap electrical tape around the exposed wires, making sure that the wires are completely covered. Your PS2 cable should be fixed.
