How to Fix the Parental Controls on the Playstation 2

The PlayStation 2 video game system lets you set a "parental control" level for games and DVDs used with the PlayStation 2. When the controls are set to a certain level, a password will be required in order to open DVDs or PlayStation 2 games on the device. You may need to fix the parental controls on your PlayStation 2, such as if you have recently purchased a used PlayStation 2 or you don't remember your parental controls password.

Instructions

    • 1

Insert a DVD into the PlayStation 2. Then, turn the device on.

    • 2

Press "Select" on the PlayStation 2 controller and then press "X" on the controller. The "Setup" screen will appear. Press the arrows on the controller until "Custom Setup" is selected and press "X" again. Then, highlight the "Parental Control" option and press "X" once more.

    • 3

Press "Select" on the PlayStation 2 controller after the parental control screen appears. A new password screen will appear.

    • 4

Enter the value "7444." The current PlayStation 2 parental controls will be deleted.

    • 5

Enter a new four digit password for the parental controls. Then, enter the same password when the "Verify" screen appears.

    • 6

Choose a new value for the parental controls. The lower the value (other than "OFF", "1" is the lowest), the stricter the parental controls. You can also set parental controls to "OFF."

    • 7

Press the "Eject" button on the PlayStation 2 after you have set the new parental controls code. Then, remove the DVD from the player.

    • 8

Reset the PlayStation 2. The parental controls on the device will be fixed to your preferences.
