How to Mod a PS2 With a Hard Drive

You can add a hard drive to a PlayStation 2 using the expansion bay. Only the original PlayStation 2 systems have the expansion bay; Playstation 2 Slim is not compatible with an add-on hard drive. The expansion bay is on the back of the PlayStation 2. The hard drive is inserted into the bay, then it is connected to a network adapter. The network adapter interfaces with the PlayStation 2, allowing it to access the hard drive.

Instructions

    • 1

Unplug the PlayStation 2 and remove the cover for the expansion bay. If the back of the PlayStation 2 is facing you, the cover is on the left side. There is a tab at the top that you can pull down to detach the cover from the PlayStation 2.

    • 2

Press the lock tabs onto each side of the hard drive, then connect the hard drive to the network adapter. The network adapter has a connector toward the bottom that connects to the hard drive.

    • 3

Insert the network adapter/hard drive unit into the expansion bay.

    • 4

Secure the adapter/hard drive by turning the mounting screws on the bottom left and right corners of the adapter. Use a coin and be careful not to overtighten the screws.
