How to Mod a PS2 Memory Card

The Playstation 2 (PS2) accepts memory cards that are used to store and return information about games when needed. You can modify (or "mod") a PS2 memory card so that a LED will light up when reading or writing data-letting you know that the PS2 memory card is working correctly. You will need a few hardware supplies and a LED purchased from a hobby store. Adult supervision is necessary if the person modding the PS2 memory card is underage since a soldering iron will be used.

Heat up the soldering iron for five minutes.

    • 7

Solder the end of the longer conductive pin of the two attached to the red LED to the gold contact on the circuit board that is the fourth from the left. Let the solder cool for a minute.

    • 8

Solder the end of the other conductive pin attached to the red LED to the first gold contact on the left of the circuit board. Let the solder cool for a minute.

    • 9

Drill a hole in the top middle of the back shell with the portable drill.

    • 10

Blow off the back shell with compressed air.
