How to Get Your PS2 to Play Pal Games

The easiest way to get your non-PAL Playstation 2 to play PAL games is to use a swap disc. A swap disc will disable the region lock built in to all PS2s, allowing the PS2 to play games or DVDs from any region. Swap Magic is one of the easier swap discs to use and includes everything you'll need to get started. Swap Magic is designed to work best with the slim PS2 model.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove any disc present in the disc tray. Disconnect the PS2 from all power sources.

    • 2

Set the PS2 on its side. Use a screwdriver to remove the six screws that hold the casing together. Pull the case off.

    • 3

Cover the small, gray cap at the top right of the motherboard with duct tape. Reattach the case and reinsert the screws.

    • 4

Open the disc top. At the bottom right corner of the disc tray, there is a small hole that the disc top uses to latch onto when it closes. Fill the hole with a small ball of tissue. Repeatedly open and close the disc top to push the tissue down. Do this until the top can barely lock into place.

    • 5

Turn the PS2 on. Examine the PAL game that you want to play. Look to see if it says "DVD-ROM" or "CD-ROM" on the front. Insert the corresponding DVD or CD Swap Magic disc.

    • 6

Use the slide tool when prompted onscreen. Insert the PAL game when prompted onscreen.
