How to Fix Corrupted PS2 8MB Memory Card File

The PlayStation 2 uses memory cards to save game data information such as level progress, customized characters and controller settings. A common PS2 memory error with all PS2 memory cards, including the 8-gigabyte models, is corruption. These errors occur when you remove the memory card from the PS2 system while it is in use. Save data files that become corrupted are rendered unusable. To salavage the memory card, you must clear the corrupted data files out.

Instructions

      Turn on the PS2 system and remove any discs (PS2 games, music CD, movie DVD) from the console. Turn off the system by clicking the "On/Off" button on the back of the PS2.

      Insert the corrupted PS2 memory card into the first slot on top of game controller Port 1. Turn on the PS2 system by clicking on the "On/Off" button.

      Select the "Browser" option in the main menu by pressing the "X" button on the PS2 controller.

      Select the memory card icon by highlighting it and select "Enter" by pressing the "X" button on the controller.

      Select the corrupted game files individually using the directional pad on your game controller.

      Press "X" on your controller to open options for the game file.

      Select "Delete" and press the "X" button on your controller to erase the corrupted game file. Repeat for each corrupted game file.
