How to Fix a PS2 That Can't Read a Memory Card

If your PlayStation 2 video game console can't read the data that is stored on a memory card, that memory card is corrupted and will have to be formatted. This will involve deleting all of the save games on the card (as well as all other data), which will let your console recognize and read new data on the card again. You can format a PS2 memory card through the main menu system on your console.

Instructions

    • 1

Insert your PS2 memory card to a memory card slot on the front of your game console.

    • 2

Press "Power" to turn on your PlayStation 2 game console.

    • 3

Select the "Memory Card" menu option.

    • 4

Select the icon for the memory card you inserted to your PS2 from the menu on screen.

    • 5

Select "Yes" when you are asked whether you would like to format your PlayStation 2 memory card. Your PS2 memory card will be formatted and your console will be able to read from and store data to the card again.
