Things You'll Need
Instructions
Eject the disc from the disc drive and inspect the bottom of it. If you see any fingerprints, dirt, dust or small scratches, you need to clean off the disc (items with deep scratches can not be fixed).
Wipe off the disc with a damp rag, moving from the inside of the CD/DVD to the outside. If there is a scratch on the game, insert it to a CD repair kit and slowly turn the hand crank on the side of the device. This buffs out the scratch, allowing you to use it in the system again.
Spray a few shots of compressed air into the disc drive of the PlayStation 2 Slim. This removes dust that can collect on the drive's laser or lens. When dust collects on this area, it causes the disc to skip.
Look to see whether you are using a self-created DVD. There are many different brands and formats the Slim does not support. If there is not much data placed on the disc, the PS2 may not detect it either. There isn't much you can do about this issue except burn the contents onto a different DVD. The best bet is to use only Sony DVD writable discs to ensure the content plays on the PS2 Slim.
