How to Make the Hades' Helm in Dragon Quest VIII

One of the more difficult to acquire items in Dragon Quest VIII for the Sony PlayStation 2 is the Hades' Helm. Although you can find a single Hades' Helm late in the game, you can make as many Hades' Helms as you want via the game's alchemy system. The process of making a Hades' Helm is slightly complicated, however, by the fact that you need to remove the curse on it before you can use it regularly.

Instructions

  Progress through the game until King Trode gives you the option to make items using the alchemy pot. This should happen automatically after you fight the Khalamari boss on the ferry. If you still do not get the alchemy pot, stay at an inn a few nights and repeatedly talk with King Trode.

  Acquire a Mithril Helm and a Devil's Tail. You can buy the Mithril Helm from the store in Empycchu for 31,300 gold pieces. You can get a Devil's Tail from the vault in Argonia.

  Using the alchemy pot, mix together the Mithril Helm and the Devil's Tail. Once the mix is done cooking, you will have the Hades' Helm.

  You now need to remove the "curse" from the Hades' Helm. The curse makes it so that once your character equips the helm, that character can never remove the helm unless you pay for a priest to remove it. To remove the curse, make another alchemy mix and combine the Hades' Helm and two Saint's Ashes. The Hades' Helm is now yours to use as you see fit.
