Fixing Your Scratched Disc
Examine your CD under a light to see the imperfections more clearly and find the most problematic areas. The priority scratches to look for are those that run in a circular fashion with the disc's contents. CD lasers read the disc's track in a circular pattern, therefore scratches that run at angles to the track generally are not a concern.
Rinse the CD with water and dry it with a soft cloth, starting at the center of the CD and moving outward in a straight line until you've dried every part. Drying the CD by wiping circularly could cause further scratches that could inhibit performance.
Test the CD at this point to see if a simple rinse and dry was enough to correct whatever issues you were experiencing.
If you're still experiencing issues after washing the PS2 CD, try a light abrasive such as toothpaste. Apply toothpaste by placing a small amount on the end of a cotton swab and wiping it directly onto the scratches.
Rinse the CD once again, drying it with the soft cloth in the same manner you did initially. You should now see that the scratches have either disappeared or become less noticeable. If they have not improved you may need to use more toothpaste on the problem areas until you see a noticeable difference.
Test your PS2 disc to see if the problems you experienced before are still occurring. If not, your task is complete, but if the problems persist repeat the mentioned steps to further remove or lessen the scratches that are present.
