How to Fix a Scratched Playstation 2 CD Disk

Sony PlayStation 2 video game discs, like any other CD or DVD, can become damaged due to excessive use or poor care. If your game has a scratch on it you may find it is not performing correctly, if it loads at all. If the scratch is light, you can correct the issue. However, deep cuts into the disc are irreversible--and the only way to fix the problem is to purchase a new copy of the game.

Things You'll Need

Damp cloth
CD repair kit
Clean, soft cloth

  Clean off the bottom side of the CD. Take a damp cloth and rub it from the inside ring to the outside edge. Cleaning the CD in a circular motion can force content into the scratch, further hindering the playback.

  Insert the deeply scratched CD into a CD repair kit. These kits buff out slight scratches, and are found at most electronic stores.

  Turn the crank handle on the side of the CD repair kit (or turn on the power button if using a motorized device). The repair kit essentially sands down the video game CD to remove the slight scratch.

  Wipe off the disc with a clean, soft cloth, then insert it into the Sony PlayStation 2.
