How to Modify PS2 Games

PlayStation 2 games may feature game codes that, when entered, can unlock hidden characters or infinite lives. For gamers who wish to go a step further, and actually make changes to the game beyond what the developer intended, there is the Action Replay device. This device, a disc inserted into your PS2, can go beyond unlocking characters and instead add characters that were never intended to be played. Other modifications include maxing out character stats or filling your inventory with every item in the game.

    • 4

      Navigate the Action Replay menu with the directional pad on your PS2 controller. Scroll over to the ̶0;Expert Mode̶1; menu option and press ̶0;X.̶1;

    • 5

      Scroll down the list of games until the one you wish to modify appears. Press ̶0;X̶1; to select the game. If the game is not listed, highlight ̶0;Add New Game̶1; and press ̶0;X.̶1; Enter the title of the game using the text entry screen that appears.

    • 6

      Enter the Master Code into the text box that appears after entering the name of your new game. The Master Code can be found on the Code Junkies website and is required to make any further changes to the game.

    • 7

      Highlight ̶0;New Code̶1; and press ̶0;X̶1; to open up the code entry screen. Enter the alphanumeric code that you obtained from the Code Junkies website. These modifications can give you every item in a game such as all Lasting Daze cards in Kingdom Hearts Re: Chain of Memories or add otherwise unplayable characters to your party, such as Seymour in Final Fantasy X.

    • 8

      Enter the name of the code into the Action Replay menu. The name should be descriptive of the function of the code, whether it is a simple addition of lives to your character or modifying the layout of weapons.

    • 9

      Press ̶0;Start̶1; on your controller and select ̶0;Start with Codes̶1; from the menu that appears. Eject the Action Replay disc and insert your game disc. Do not power off the console at this time.
