How to Use a Pen Drive As a Memory Card for a PS2

The PlayStation 2 was released in 2000 and has proven remarkably popular. Its standard memory device is an 8 MB memory card, and while third-party manufacturers have offered larger storage options, many users still want greater versatility with their saved games. Using a pen drive or USB memory stick to transfer your save data to your PC can help you back up your data on your PC or even exchange save data with other people online.

Instructions

    • 1

Purchase CodeBreaker for PS2. This is a disc that can be inserted into the PS2 and lets you perform hacks and cheats on your games. It also has a "Device Manager" function that is essential for using a pen drive as a memory card.

    • 2

Insert the flash drive into the PS2, then insert the CodeBreaker disc. Turn on the system. After it loads, select the "Device Manager" option from the main menu and hit the "X" button. It is the third icon from the left on this screen; it looks like an open tray. This will take you to a new menu with "Select Source Device" at the top.

    • 3

Select the source device you wish to copy from. If you are transferring information from a memory card to a flash drive, select the applicable memory card slot. If you're using information from a PC that you'd like to transfer back to play on the PS2, select the flash drive, which is the diagonal rectangle placed third from the right. Hit "X" to continue.

Scroll up and down on the next menu, select the save file you'd like to copy and hit the "X" button. This just selects it. You now have to push the "Triangle" button to access the actions that are available for it. The options are to copy the save file or delete it.

Select "Copy" and hit "X" again. It will ask you to select the storage device you will be transferring to, using the same screen and sequence of icons it used to ask you which storage device you would be transferring from. Select either the pen drive icon or the correct memory card and hit "X" again. CodeBreaker will take a moment to copy the file. The save-file is now completely transferred from or to the pen drive and can be played on the PlayStation 2.
