How to Use a USB Pen Drive As a Memory Card for the PS2

The PlayStation 2 launched in 2000 with a Sony-supported 8 MB memory card, but since then, users have sought more options for handling their saved games. Third parties have created several larger memory card sizes with varying degrees of functionality, but a program called Codebreaker allows users to treat a USB pen drive as a PS2 storage device. This means saves can be backed up on the near-limitless storage space of contemporary home PCs, or they can be traded with friends online.

Instructions

    • 1

Insert the pen drive into the PS2's USB port. Place the Codebreaker disc into the PS2's loading tray and turn the system on.

    • 2

Select the "Device Manager" option from the Codebreaker main menu and hit the "X" button. This moves you to a screen with "Select SOURCE Device" at the top.

    • 3

Pick the storage device you'd like to transfer from. The first two icons represent the PS2's two memory card slots, and the third icon represents the pen drive in the PS2. Hit "X" when you've selected the appropriate storage device, depending on where you'll be transferring from.

    • 4

Scroll up or down until you've highlighted the save-file you wish to transfer, then hit "X" to select it. Now push the "Triangle" button for a list of possible actions.

    • 5

Choose to "Copy" it by highlighting that option and hitting the "X" button. A screen will come up that says "Select DESTINATION Device" with the same icons from Step 3, when you chose the source device. Choose the correct destination for your save file and hit "X." Codebreaker will take a moment to transfer the data from the pen drive to the memory card or vice versa. You have now used a common pen drive as a PS2 memory card.
