How Do I Get a PS2 Eye Toy to Work on a Computer?

The "EyeToy" is a digital camera and webcam for the Playstation 2. This device is known to have gesture recognition. While it is beneficial as a Playstation 2 peripheral to play games using motion detection, it can also be used as a regular camera for Windows-based computers. If you already have the "EyeToy," a simple download of a driver with a file modification will enable you to use this device for Windows XP.

Instructions

    • 1

Plug your "EyeToy" camera into the USB port of your computer. Wait until Windows detects the device, then take note of which camera type you have, either "EyeToy Namtai" or "EyeToy Logitech." Disconnect the camera from the computer.

    • 2

Download the "D-Link DSB-C310 v1.10" driver to your computer (link provided under "Resources"). It will be a zip file, which you must decompress into a folder you will be able to find later.

    • 3

Navigate to the decompressed folder for the "D-Link DSB-C310 v1.10" driver and double-click to open it. Then right-click on the file "OV519.inf" and move your cursor to "Send To," and click on "Notepad."

    • 4

Press Ctrl+H in "Notepad" to bring up the "Replace" window. Then type "VID_05A9&PID_8519" in the "Find what" field. Then, in the "Replace with" field, type code "VID_054C&PID_0154" if you have an "EyeToy Logitech" or type "VID_054C&PID_0155" if you are using the "EyeToy Namtai." Next, click on "Replace All."

    • 5

Press Ctrl+H again to bring up the "Replace" window. Type in the words DeviceDesc="D-Link VGA Webcam" in the "Find what" field. Then, in the "Replace with" field, type "EyeToy" and click "Replace All."

    • 6

Go to "File" then click on "Save." If you are unable to save, you will have to right click on the "OV519.inf" file again and select "Properties." Then de-select "Read-only" and click on "OK."

    • 7

Connect your "Eye Toy" into your USB port. When the Windows prompt appears asking for the driver, point it to the directory where your "D-Link DSB-C310 v1.10" folder is located. Click "OK" to save the changes.
