How to Make Your Own PS2 Slide Card

The "slide card," or "swap card," is important for any PS2 user who wants to play burned games on his PlayStation 2. Developed by an anonymous fan on the Internet, the slide card unlocks and manually ejects the PS2's disc drive without the PS2 actually recognizing that the drive has been ejected. That makes it possible to use the "swap trick," where the user essentially swaps out one game disc for another to bypass the PS2 game disc's boot sector.

Instructions

    • 1

Find a suitable plastic card to convert into a slide card. An expired gift card or something with similar dimensions will work nicely.

    • 2

Measure out a rectangular area approximately 2 x 3 inches. Use your marker to note these dimensions on the card.

    • 3

Cut the card into the dimensions defined in Step 2.

    • 4

Measure one inch down from the top of the card, then 1/2 inch in from the side of the card. Cut in from the side of the card until you hit the 1/2-inch mark, then cut up from the bottom of the card to remove the 2-inch x 1/2-inch section. You will be left with a rectangular shape with a 1 x 1/2-inch outcropping.

    • 5

Find the approximate center of the outcropping and measure 1/4 inch down from the top. Measure 1/16 inch to each side of the mark. Perfect measurement is not necessary at this point, but it helps to have a frame of reference so that the total width is 1/8 inch.

    • 6

Cut out the section you outlined in the preceding step. You now have a section approximately 1/4 inch deep and 1/8 inch wide.

    • 7

Cut the corner of the outcropping off at a 60-degree angle. Your slide card is now ready to use in the PS2 swap trick.
