How to Fix DNS Errors on PS2

The PlayStation Network Adapter for the PlayStation 2 allows you to play multiplayer games online with games that are compatible. A common problem with this service is a DNS error. DNS stands for Domain Name Service and an error of this nature basically means you are unable to connect to the Internet. This can be caused by a number of issues.

Instructions

    • 1

Ensure that everything is plugged in correctly. The Network Adapter must be fit securely to the PS2 and an Ethernet cable must be securely connected to the Network Adapter. You will hear the Ethernet cable click into place when it is inserted properly.

    • 2

Reconfigure your network settings. Insert the Network Adapter setup disc into your PS2 and run the setup utility. Make sure that all of your settings are correct, such as what type of network you have and what the name of your network is.

    • 3

Power cycle all of your devices. To do this, turn off your PS2, router and modem. Wait a moment, then power on your modem and router. Once your modem has connected to the Internet, power on your PS2 and try again.

    • 4

If you are using a router, try connecting your PS2 directly to your modem. Some routers may not be compatible with the PS2. If this is the case, you may need to purchase a router that is compatible.

    • 5

Disable firewall settings. If you have firewall settings on your network, they could be blocking the PS2 from getting a connection. Turn on your PC and go the "Network Connections" option in the control panel. Disable any firewalls that are activated.

Disable your antivirus software. If you have antivirus software, this too could be blocking the PS2 from getting a connection. Open up your software and disable it and check your PS2 again.
