How to Replace a PS2 Controller Port

Replacing the Controller Ports

  Unplug all of the plugs attached to the Playstation. Then flip the PS2 upside down. While upside down you will notice covers over each screw. There will be 8 to 10 in all depending on the PS2 model. Remove each cover over the screws. Next use a Phillips Head screw driver to remove each screw from the PS2. Remember where the longer and shorter screws were inserted, because you will have to put them back in later.

  Flip the PS2 back to its normal position. Next carefully remove the top of the PS2 from the bottom, but be careful because there is a ribbon connecting the reset/eject button to the bottom part. If this is ripped it will cut off the power to the PS2 and be extremely hard to replace. After opening the PS2, locate the controller ports. You will see two screws connecting the ports to the PS2, one on the right and one of the left. Remove both of these screws carefully and set them aside. Gently lift the controller ports and do not rip the ribbon connected because it can cause damage to the PS2.

  Connect the new controller port to the PS2. Remove the old port without ripping the ribbon attached, and replace it with the new one. Connect the ribbon to the new controller port. Next screw the two screws into the controller port. Make sure the new port is secure and stable, if its wobbly tighten the screws.

  Replace the top of the PS2 back to the bottom part. Carefully flip it upside down and use the Phillips Head screwdriver to put back the 8 to 10 screws from earlier. Place the screw covers back in and flip the PS2 back to its normal position.

  Test the new controller port by plugging in a PS2 controller and memory card. Turn the PS2 power on and put in a game. Hit all of the buttons on the controller to make sure all of them work properly. Now your controller port will be working.
