How to Fix a Playstation 2 Slim Version

The PlayStation 2 Slim is a more compact, but functionally identical model of the original PS2. As with the original, the mechanism of the power button that clicks the PS2 ̶0;On̶1; can become defective and no longer work. Fixing the power button does not require sending it into a service center, although you will be voiding the warranty by disassembling the PS2 Slim. No electrical skill is needed to fix the power button so that the PS2 Slim can be again used.

Instructions

    • 1

Put the towel on a table. Remove all of the cables connected to the PS2 Slim. Put the PS2 Slim face down on the towel.

    • 2

Remove the six screws from the back edges on the bottom of the PS2 Slim using the Phillips jeweler̵7;s screwdriver.

    • 3

Turn the PS2 Slim back face up. Grab the right corner top of the PS2 Slim with your left hand. Grab the right corner bottom of the PS2 Slim with your right hand (reverse this for ̶0;lefties̶1;). Pull the corner of the top up from the bottom.

    • 4

Continue pulling until the top shell of the PS2 Slim comes off of the bottom shell. Put the top shell aside.

    • 5

Insert the tip of the flat-edged screwdriver into the sides of the power switch to dislodge the four plastic tabs holding it to the bottom shell of the PS2 Slim.

    • 6

Pull out the wire from the power switch with your fingers. Lift the power switch out from the front corner of the bottom shell.

    • 7

Insert the tip of the flat-edged screwdriver into the metal bracket clicker that is in the corner of the power switch. Wiggle the tip to dislodge the metal bracket clicker. Remove the metal bracket clicker with your fingers.

    • 8

Remove the lid of the glue stick. Push the flat part of the metal bracket clicker into the glue in the glue stick. Rub the metal bracket clicker back and forth to get plenty of glue on it. Remove the metal bracket clicker from the glue. Close the lid on the glue stick.

    • 9

Reinsert the metal bracket clicker into the corner of the power switch as it was placed before-- this is at the opposite side of the four plastic tabs on the front of the power switch.

    • 10

Push the metal bracket clicker down using the tip of the flat-edged jeweler̵7;s screwdriver. Let the glue set for at least 10 minutes. Reattach the wire to the power switch.
