How to Open a PS2 Slimline

The PS2 Slimline replaced the previous PS2 system in 2004, a couple of years prior to the PS3's release. The system is much smaller, lighter and thinner than the previous PS2 console. If you're curious about the PS2 Slimline's inner workings, you can open it with ease; unlike the Playstation 3 or Nintendo Wii, the Playstation 2 Slimline does not have special "security" screws.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn the PS2 Slimline off. Unplug the controllers and memory cards from the front and unplug the cables from the rear.

    • 2

Flip the PS2 Slimline over to expose its bottom. Peel off the small warranty sticker to expose one of the screw covers.

    • 3

Pry up the rubber screw covers from the bottom of the PS2 Slimline with a small flat head screwdriver. There are six screw covers in all, including the one underneath the warranty sticker.

    • 4

Remove the six Phillips screws with a number one Phillips head screwdriver. Place the screws aside in a safe place.

    • 5

Carefully lift the bottom cover from the PS2 Slimline; with the screws out, it comes off quite easily. This exposes the inner components of the console.
