How to Play Backups on a Slim PS2

There are a few options to those who want to play backups on their PS2. None of them is user friendly, but the easiest would be to use a swap disc (such as Swap Magic). Swap disc allows you to play backups, imported games or DVDs from any region. It should be noted that this will only work on the slim PS2 and that doing this will void any warranty you may have.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the disc tray and remove and disc that may be inside the PS2. Disconnect the PS2 from the wall AC. Turn the PS2 on it's side and use a screwdriver to remove the six screws that hold the back casing on.

    • 2

Gently pull the back casing off. Find the small cap at the top right section on the motherboard.

    • 3

Use tape to cover the cap entirely. Reconnect the casing (screws as well).

    • 4

Open the disc tray. Get a small piece of tissue, roll it into a small ball, and insert it into the hole that the disc tray latches onto when it closes. Open and close the disc tray a few times to push the tissue in.

    • 5

Reconnect the PS2 to the wall AC. Turn the PS2 back on.

    • 6

Insert the appropriate Swap Magic disc. If your backup was created from a DVD-ROM disc, use the Swap Magic DVD-ROM. If your backup was from a CD-ROM, use the Swap Magic CD-ROM.

    • 7

Use the slide tool that comes with Swap Magic when requested on screen. The slide tool allows you to insert your backup without resetting the PS2.

    • 8

Insert the backup when requested on screen. The backup will play as the original would.
