How to Wire PS2 Port to USB Port

The new Sony PlayStation 3 allows you to connect controllers to the system via USB cable. However, the PlayStation 2 uses a serial port connection to attach controllers to the device. If you have older PS2 controllers that you want to use on your PS3, you need to wire the PS2 port on the controller to a USB cable port so you can plug the controller into the gaming system.

Instructions

    • 1

Connect the serial cable running off the Sony PlayStation 2 controller into the serial port side of the PS2-to-PS3 USB adapter cable.

    • 2

Plug the other end of the adapter into the PS3's USB port. Although the PS3 does support wireless gaming controllers, you must leave this controller connected to the gaming system (PS2 controllers are not wireless).

    • 3

Power on the Sony PlayStation 3 and you can begin playing all of your games with the PS2 controller.
