How to Change the Parental Control Setting on a Playstation 2

The PlayStation 2 is not just a video game system; it's also a basic DVD player. With this added feature, the PS2 comes equipped with limited parental controls that can restrict the types of movies you can view on the console. Once you activate the controls, you must enter a password every time a DVD is inserted. If you purchase a used PS2 and find that the previous owner̵7;s password blocks your access to the DVD player, there is a way to reset the system.

Instructions

  1. How to Enable Parental Controls

    • 1

Insert a DVD into the PlayStation 2.

    • 2

Press "Select" in order to access the control panel. Move to the Set Up icon and select it by pressing "X."

    • 3

Go to the "Custom Set Up" menu using your directional pad and select it by pressing "X" once again. After you've done this, you should see the "Parental Control" option on your screen. Select it by pressing "X." A new window will show up on your screen that requires you to enter a four-digit password.

    • 4

Enter four numbers from the list of numbers that appears. You will then be required to re-enter the numbers for confirmation. This will enable you to have access to the "Region" and "Level" parental control settings.

    • 5

Select "Region" and adjust it to the rating system used in your country. After you've done this, you can select "Level" in order to apply the restrictions. The lower the value that appears on your screen, the stricter the setting. This screen also gives you the option of turning the parental controls off.

    • 6

Eject the DVD and press the reset button on the PlayStation in order to save the parental control settings. After the changes are saved, every time you wish to view a movie using your PS2, you will be required to enter your four-digit password.

    How to Reset Parental Controls

    • 7

Turn your PlayStation 2 on and press the "Reset" button. Then insert a DVD. A screen should appear informing you that the parental controls are restricting your access to the movie.

    • 8

Press the "Select" button to bring up the password screen and then press the "Select" button again. This should bring up a screen that gives you the option to delete your password.

    • 9

Enter your password in the space provided and press "X." If you do not know the password, enter the PS2 default passwords "1111" or "7444" and press "X." This should reset parental controls. You must, however, be sure to eject the DVD and press reset so as to save the changes.
