List of Naruto Video Games for Sony PlayStation 2

The popular anime series Naruto has spread into multiple media outlets: a TV show, a monthly run in the compilation manga magazine Shonen Jump and a series of video games on multiple systems. Like its spiritual predecessor Dragonball Z, Naruto focuses on the adventures and battles of a team of super-powered martial artists. The series translates easily to video game format. Several popular Naruto games have debuted on the PlayStation 2, by far the most popular of the last console generation and a competitor even among current consoles.
  1. Naruto: Ultimate Ninja 3

    • Naruto: Ultimate Ninja 3, known in Japan as Narutimate Hero 3, allows you to reenact the storyline of the manga up to the Sasuke Retrieval story arc. You take control of Naruto, Kakashi, Rock Lee and several other ninja characters in a series of one-on-one battles. Battle takes place on a two-dimensional plane, but you can choose to fight either in the background or in the foreground. The game also includes an RPG mode with a separate storyline. In this mode, you travel around the village of Konoha and the surrounding areas, exploring and picking up unlockable items and techniques to use in battle. The Versus mode has over 30 characters.

    Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja 4

    • Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja 4 takes the gameplay of the previous games in the series and expands on it. More characters have been made available for use. The story covers Naruto's training with the ninja master Jiraiya for two years, followed by his return to Konoha. Sakura was added as a playable character in the story mode to this game, whereas in the previous game, storyline battles were fought mostly by Naruto and Kakashi.

    Naruto: Uzumaki Chronicles 2

    • Naruto: Uzumaki Chronicles 2 allows you to participate in a side story out of the main series continuity. Instead of taking a fighting game approach, this entry in the PlayStation 2 Naruto library plays like a three-dimensional, action-adventure game. According to GameFAQs, you can switch between multiple characters available to you on a team and develop their skills individually. Some missions, however, require you to play as certain characters.

    Naruto: Uzumaki Chronicles

    • The prequel to Naruto: Uzumaki Chronicles 2 was the first attempt at creating a Naruto RPG. You gain experience by fighting randomly encountered enemies on the overworld map. After battles, you can raise your abilities by placing icons, Skill Chips, onto templates called Skill Plates. It works similarly to a puzzle because some of the chips have irregular shapes.
