How to Replace a Fan on a PS2 Slim

The PlayStation 2 slim is a smaller and more mobile version of the original PS2. The slim model reorganizes all of the hardware so a large portion of the case can be removed, but it still offers all the gaming experience of the PS2. The main problem with cramming all the hardware in a smaller space is that pieces tend to heat up quicker. That makes the cooling fan work for long periods of time and as a result, they occasionally burn out. Replacing these fans is an easy and cheap process that nearly anyone can accomplish.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the PS2 Slim cover by using the screwdriver to take out the four screws on the bottom edge of the machine. Pull the cover off so you are looking down into the PS2.

    • 2

Unscrew the three screws holding the cooling fan in its dock. Disconnect the wires on the fan from the power source. Pull the fan straight up out of the dock and set it aside.

    • 3

Slide the new fan down onto the dock with the wires facing towards the power supply. Screw the fan in place with the screws you removed.

    • 4

Connect the wires from the new fan to the power supply.

    • 5

Slide the cover back on and screw it back in place using the four screws you originally took out of the case.

    • 6

Plug the PS2 into a power outlet and put it on standby using the switch on the back of the console. Power the console completely on by pressing the power button and check to see that the fan is working.
