Prepare
Prepare a good space for you to take apart your PS2. This should be a large, flat surface such as a table where you will have a lot of space to move around and set aside parts. Never take apart your PS2 while the power is still plugged in, because this can cause damage and injury. Luckily, the PS2 does not use any fancy screws, so the only tools you need are a Phillips screwdriver for the screws and a flat-head screwdriver for prying. Be sure to use firm but gentle force when removing anything to avoid causing damage.
Disassemble and Remove Chip
The disassembly is straightforward and easy even if you don't have instructions. There are eight screws on the bottom of the PS2. Four are hidden beneath rubber feet and four are hidden beneath plastic shields that must be pried off. Once those screws are removed, you can remove the lid, but be sure to do it slowly and disconnect the ribbon cable that goes to the power button. You will now see the disk drive, heat sink, power supply and cooling fan. Remove all of these to get to the motherboard. Now that you have access to the motherboard, you can remove it and mod it as you wish.
