How to Play Imported Games on PS2

A handful of ways exist to get imported PS2 games to work. However, most of them require some tinkering with your PS2. The simplest and most affordable method is to use a swap disc. A swap disc can be used to play imported games and DVDs on your PS2. You will be required to open the PS2 in order to use the swap disc. This will void any warranty you may have. Note: This will not work for the older, first generation PS2s.

Instructions

    • 1

Unplug the PS2 from any power outlet. Lay the PS2 on its back.

    • 2

Remove the six screws at the bottom that hold the casing together. Take the case off. Do not force it.

    • 3

Locate a small cap at the top right of the PS2. It will be on the back of the motherboard near the word "reverse".

    • 4

Cover the cap completely with tape. Reattach the PS2 case.

    • 5

Open the disc top (where you insert games). Remove any disc that may be present.

    • 6

Insert a small ball of tissue in the hole at the bottom right, where the disc top latches when it closes. Open and close the disc top a few times to get the tissue inside.

    • 7

Turn the PS2 on. Insert the appropriate Swap Magic disc. If your import is a CD, insert the Swap Magic CD. If your import is a DVD, insert the Swap Magic DVD.

    • 8

Use the slide tool when prompted on screen. This will prevent the PS2 from resetting. Insert the import you want to play when prompted on the screen. Play the import as you would any other game or DVD.
