How to Play Backup PS2 Games Without a Mod Chip

The three most common ways of playing PS2 backups are by installing a mod chip, using an HDloader, or a swap disc. All of these methods require some work on the user's part. Using a swap disc utility, such as Swap Magic, however, will require the least work and includes everything you need to get started. Swap Magic will play imported games and DVDs, homemade games and PS2 backups.

Instructions

    • 1

Disconnect the PS2 from the AC outlet. Lay the PlayStation 2 on its back. Remove the 6 screws that hold the casing together. Pull the case off.

    • 2

Find the small cap at the top right of the PS2. It is located on the right side of the motherboard near the word "reverse.".

    • 3

Cover the cap with three small pieces of tape. Cover the cap completely.

    • 4

Reconnect the cover to the PS2 and reinsert the screws.

    • 5

Open the flip top (where you insert disc) on the PS2. Remove any disc that may be inside. At the bottom right, you will notice a little hole that the flip top connects to when it closes. Place a small piece of tissue into the hole. Open and close the flip top a few times to push the tissue inside.

    • 6

Turn the PS2 on. Insert the Swap Magic disc. Use the slide tool that comes with Swap Magic when prompted on screen. This will allow you to load your PS2 backup without the system resetting. Insert the game when prompted on screen. It will begin and play as normal.
