How to Connect a Memory Card From a PlayStation 2 to the Computer

Having saves from your video games on your computer can be useful in any number of ways. You can download save files from other players onto your own games, and you can share your save files with others. In the case of the Sony PlayStation 2, however, there is no direct way that a PS2 memory card can be connected to a personal computer (PC). Fortunately, a peripheral device, Gameshark's X-Port, allows you to connect your PS2 to your PC to transfer save files.

Instructions

    • 1

Install the X-Port software onto your PC. When the PC is connected to the PS2, the software will find the PS2 and create a network with it, making the PC into a server and the PS2 into a client.

    • 2

Connect the PC to the PS2 through a USB cable. You will find USB ports for the PS2 in front of the console, at the bottom left corner.

    • 3

Place the X-Port disk into the PS2. Along with a disc for the PC, the X-Port should have also come with a disc that can be read by the PS2. You will need to boot the PS2 with the disc already inside. This means that, if you were to turn the PS2 on while inserting the disc, you will need to restart the PS2 after the disc is inside.

    • 4

Turn the PS2 on and allow the PS2 to boot the X-Port disc. This should start the X-Port client program on the PS2 and allow you to manipulate the save files on the PS2 from your PC.

    • 5

Using the menu on your PC, do what you wish with your PS2 memory card. This includes transferring files to and from the PS2 memory card and even transferring manipulated save files, or "hacks" into the card.

    • 6

When you are finished, turn off your PS2 and remove the X-Port disc.
