How to Play Burnt Games on PS2 Slim

The most common methods of playing burnt games (usually referred to as "backups") on the PS2 slim is by using a mod chip or swap disk. Mod chips are effective but more difficult to install and more costly. Anyone can use a swap disk (specifically, Swap Magic) and they are equally as effective. Swap Magic allows you to play imported games, backups and home-brewed games. Swap Magic is safe; however, opening your PS2 will void your Sony warranty.

Instructions

    • 1

Lay the PS2 on its back. Unscrew the six screws holding the casing together. Remove the case.

    • 2

Locate the small cap at the top right of the console. It will be on the right side of the word "reverse" on the motherboard of the PS2.

    • 3

Put three pieces of duct tape around the cap. Make sure it is not visible. Scotch or masking tape is acceptable. Place the cover back on your PS2, including the screws.

    • 4

Open the flip top (where you insert games) of the PS2 slim. At the bottom right, is where the flip top locks into place. Get a small piece of tissue, roll it into a ball and insert it into the hole that locks the flip top into place. Open and close the flip top a few times to get it inside.

    • 5

Insert the Swap Magic disc and turn the PS2 on. Use the slide tool when prompted. Insert the burnt game you want to play when prompted.
