Parts of a PS2

The PlayStation 2 is a sixth-generation video game console that features 3-D graphics, hundreds of available games and the ability to play games online through an Ethernet adapter. The system is built and powered using multiple components that make the machine come alive.
  1. Discs

    • The PlayStation 2 features a pop-out tray on which disc games are loaded. The discs then connect and spin over a built-in DVD laser lens that can also read CDs, DVDs, and original PlayStation games.

    Controller Ports

    • The front of the PlayStation 2 features two serial controller ports that are compatible with both PlayStation and PS2 controllers. A PS2 controller expansion bay can plug in to one of the controller ports to make the system compatible for eight-player games.

    Expansion Bay

    • The back of a PS2 features an expansion bay that a hard drive or Ethernet connection can snap onto. The expansion bay is covered by a plastic piece that is pulled off using a flathead screwdriver.

    CPU

    • The system runs at 299 MHz with a chip that has 64-bit graphics processing. The CPU chip is known as the Emotion Engine and is located internally on the system. It also uses a GS graphics card to help render and display games.

    Cords

    • The PlayStation 2 requires two cords to power and connect to a television. The basic power cord plugs into the back of the PS2 and plugs into any standard outlet. The A/V cord is an RCA cord with a special connection to the PS2 and three cables for the television (two audio and one video).
