Recruiting Players
Before you start a match in PES6, your first task will be to build a team that can take down your opponent. Each player is based on his real-life counterpart with his own strengths and weaknesses you must use to cover weaknesses of your own. For example, if you stumble when keeping a tight hold on the ball when confronted by the defense, choose a fast player like Eto'o or Robben. Having either of these speed players on your team can help you run past the competition. They're both useful on defense as well, as their speed allows them to keep pace with the opposing team's attackers and prevent them from knocking the ball away. For endurance, choose Kuyr or Gattuso, and you won't have to worry about switching them out in the middle of a game due to a lack of energy. Having players on your team who are able to play from start to finish will keep you from having to readjust midgame to a new player on the field. If you need to get dirty in your play tactics, select Heize and Thurman, who will stop at nothing to get the ball away from your opponent. Even when not under your direct control, these players will be working for you rather than hindering your own performance.
Controlling the Ball
If you want to win every match in PES6, you have to take complete control of the ball. While many soccer games allow one-button passing and scoring, PES 6 introduces manual ball-handling. This is done by using the right analog stick on the controller. When passing to another player, aim toward him with the right analog stick while using the left to guide your own player. When you have lined up your shot, click the right stick, and you will pass in your chosen direction. Pressing the left shoulder button on your controller while performing a manual pass will increase the strength and send the ball flying at your target. Don't use manuals only for passing but also for scoring. The same method works on the goal, so when you're close enough for a clear shot, do a manual toward the goal. With the added control, you can choose where you want the shot to hit, making you one step ahead of the goalie. If you want to aim over the goalie's head, use your shoulder button for the added kick.
