How to Install HDD on PS2

Some models of the PlayStation 2 video-game console have an expansion bay for add-on peripherals such as a hard-disk drive--commonly abbreviated as HDD. You can install an HDD on a PS2 to hold saved games and back up saves from a memory card. One game, Final Fantasy XI, requires installation onto a PS2 hard drive.

Instructions

    • 1

Unplug your PS2 from the electrical outlet. Remove controllers and memory cards from the console.

    • 2

Detach the expansion-bay panel on the back of the console. Insert the screwdriver into the slot on the top of the expansion bay and pop out the cover.

    • 3

Connect your HDD to the PlayStation network adapter. The connection tabs fit together only one way.

    • 4

Insert the HDD and Playstation Network Adapter into the expansion bay on the back of the PlayStation 2. Gently push them into the bay.

    • 5

Using the screwdriver, gently turn the mounting screws on the bottom of the network adapter to mount the HDD into place. Turn only until it is tight--do not overtighten, as you can damage the system and the network adapter.
