How to Install PS2 Ribbon Cable

The Sony PlayStation 2 ribbon cable connects the "Reset/Eject" button to the interior of the PS2. It also acts as a way to connect the bottom and top compartments of the gaming system when it is taken apart. Although the cable is small, thin and appears relatively unimportant, without the cable the PS2 does not function properly and the disk in the system can not be ejected, nor can the operating system be reset.

Instructions

    • 1

Power down the PS2 and unplug it from the wall outlet and all controllers.

    • 2

Flip the PS2 upside down. There are eight screws on the bottom of the device, all protected by screw caps. Pry the caps off with your flathead screwdriver.

    • 3

Remove the screws with the Philips screwdriver. Place the screw caps and the screws aside.

    • 4

Pull the top cover off of the bottom of the PS2. If you currently have a ribbon cable installed, you need to lift gently and lay the top cover on the ground so the inside is exposed.

    • 5

Plug the PS2 ribbon into the port next to the "Reset/Eject" button on the inside of the case. On the flip side of the bottom of the PS2 case there is a small port for the other end of the PS2 ribbon to be inserted into. Plug the other end of the ribbon cable in.

    • 6

Place the top of the PS2 case back onto the bottom and reassemble the screws and the screw caps.
