How to Clean PS2 Game Scratches

With time and use, any PlayStation 2 game will pick up a few scratches and dirt or fingerprints, making it harder for your console to read a disc. Knowing how to clean your PlayStation 2 games properly can help you remove surface markings to maintain game playability.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn on the water in your sink so a small, steady stream of warm water flows out of the tap. You don't want the water pressure to be too high, so don't turn it up all the way. Make sure it's on just enough that the water flows out without dripping.

    • 2

Wet the "play" side of the game disc (the shiny side) with the water. Put two to three drops of mild dish detergent on the disc, making sure it covers the entire side.

    • 3

Hold and rotate the disc beneath the stream of running water, thoroughly washing all of the soap from the bottom of the disc. This will remove most gunk, fingerprints and debris from the disc.

    • 4

Repeat Step 2 and Step 3 as necessary. Do this until you're satisfied with the cleanliness of the disc. The process likely will only have to be done once.

    • 5

Use the hair dryer and lint-free cloth to gently dry the PS2 disc. Blow the water off the disc with the hair dryer to help ensure no watermarks are left behind; the lint-free cloth can ensure a watermark-free disc as well.
