How to Boot a Japanese PS2 CD-ROM Game on an NTSC USA PS2

There are a number of ways to play imported and backup games on your PS2. The most common method is installing a mod-chip, however, that will void the warranty and often requires professional installation. A safer, more cost-effective method is to use a swap disc such as "Swap Magic." Swap Magic is a set of tools used to play imports and backups. The modifications made to the PS2 using Swap Magic are simple and can be done with little effort.

Instructions

    • 1

Insert the appropriate Swap Magic disc into your American PS2. If the Japanese game you want to play is a CD, insert the Swap Magic CD. If it is a DVD, insert the Swap Magic DVD.

    • 2

Use the slide tool to remove the Swap Magic disc. Doing this will allow you to switch the games without resetting the PS2.

    • 3

Insert the imported Japanese game that you want to play. Using the slide tool again, slowly place the CD tray back into the PS2.

    • 4

Press the X button on the PS2 controller to begin the game. The game will load and operate as normal, however, it will remain in its native language during game play.
