Changing the Camera
In many adventure games and role-playing games, the right analog stick is used to adjust the camera. By pressing R3, the player can often switch the camera to a first-person view that will allow him or her to look around from the character's perspective. Rogue Galaxy and Dragon Quest VIII both use R3 for this function.
Crouching
Some games use R3 to crouch. Battlefield 2 and Mace Griffin Bounty Hunter are both first-person shooter games that use the R3 button to crouch.
Zooming
In some first-person shooters, pressing R3 will zoom to your weapon's sights to increase your long-range accuracy. This is especially true when using sniper rifles or other scoped weaponry, such as in Killzone or Ghost Recon.
Manual Aim
Some games use R3 to switch to a manual aim mode that allows the player to use the right analog stick to move the cross-hairs and aim freely. Tomb Raider Legend and Tomb Raider Anniversary both use R3 for this function.
Other Functions
In the SOCOM: U.S. Navy Seals series, the R3 button is used to reload, while in the Ratchet &Clank series the R3 button will open the world map. Many games also use R3 to re-center the camera behind the character, such as in Radiata Stories.
Controller Customization
Some games allow full controller customization, or "controller mapping," which allows players to specifically change any button to have any in-game operation. If a game has this option, it is possible to make R3 perform any in-game function you desire, so in many cases it will be important to experiment and find a configuration you enjoy using.
