Star Wars Battlefront II Instructions

Star Wars Battlefront II is a first-person shooter with a focus on larger scale, tactical combat. It is similar in many respects to the Battlefield series of games. The game adds a few features to the original Star Wars Battlefront, such as different match types, the choice of prequel or original trilogy forces and hero units. There are also different maps from the original game, with some maps being removed or altered.
  1. Basic Controls

    • The primary and secondary attack buttons are the left and right mouse buttons by default. The function of these buttons depends on what soldier type the player has and what weapons are selected. These are not necessarily always offensive weapons, depending on the unit. Each unit can jump (space bar), but tapping the jump button a second time can be used to activate the jet pack of Dark Troopers and Jet Troopers, or the force jump ability of Jedi. The arrow keys or WASD keys are used for walking forward and backward and strafing. The mouse is used for looking around and targeting. These controls, however, can be completely customized using the controls option in the main menu.

    Game Modes

    • The main menu options are divided into a variety of single player and multiplayer options. Training features a couple of missions to show basic gameplay mechanics to new players. Rise of the Empire and Galactic Conquest are single player modes following basic story lines. Instant action allows the player to jump right into playing a match. Multiplayer can be used for either LAN or Internet matches with other players.

Conquest is the classic Battlefront mode, and is won by either controlling and holding all of the Command Posts on the map or depleting all of the enemy reinforcements. Each side loses one reinforcement point when a unit is killed. In addition, if one team controls the majority of Command Posts on the map, the other team will start to lose reinforcement points over time. Some Command Posts cannot be captured, but can be destroyed. A Command Post represented by a diamond on the map can be destroyed.

    Gameplay

    • When spawning into the game, the player selects one of a number of units. Most of the options are always present, but a few more specialized troops and heroes only appear on certain maps or under certain conditions. The selected unit determines what type of weapons and abilities the player has. Unlike many first person shooters, the player cannot pick up different weaponry from fallen enemies. All units use the same generic ammo and health power ups.

Players spawn at Control Points occupied by their forces. If the player dies they can respawn at any Control Point they choose until their side runs out of reinforcements. When respawning, the player can choose to use a different unit. The player can respawn at any time by choosing the "Respawn" option from the game menu.
