How To Connect a Playstation2 to a Computer

You might connect your Playstation 2 game console to a computer for game play for several reasons (if you need to free up your TV set's connectors, for example). The biggest problem is that your computer likely doesn't have the standard audio/video connections that most consoles use. This is solved with a device used mostly to help connect video players or cameras: the video capture card.

Instructions

    • 1

Install a video capture card onto your computer. It can be either an internal card that is inserted into a PCI video slot or an external card connected to your USB port. It must have composite audio/video (yellow, white and red) ports, which any capture card should have.

    • 2

Load and install the capture card's software onto the computer so it will recognize the card's drivers. The CD included with the card has the needed software, and it also contains a media application to view videos through the capture card.

    • 3

Connect the Playstation 2 to the computer by plugging the console's audio/video cable into the capture card. Make sure the console's power adapter is plugged in.

    • 4

Open the media player for the capture card on your computer. Depending on the type of capture card you installed, you also could open Windows Media Player, QuickTime or another media application. Check the card's instructions to see if it works with other applications (and which ones).

    • 5

Insert a game into the Playstation 2, turn it on and watch for the Playstation 2 screen to appear on the media application's monitor. Use the application's Full Screen option to enlarge the monitor; you'll want the largest game screen possible.
