How to Beat The Sorrow in Metal Gear Solid 3

Metal Gear Solid 3 (Playstation 2) has a wide cast of characters that enact the plot of the game. One such character, "The Sorrow" is one of the antagonists in the game's storyline. The Sorrow is unusual in the fact that he is actually dead and spends most of the game as nothing more than a disembodied specter. The Sorrow is exceptional in the fact that his specific battle is more of a walk up a river than an actual battle. However, it can be impossible to get past this scenario unless you know the correct method to use.

Instructions

    • 1

Walk up the river. Keep moving regardless of the obstacles. The goal in this "fight" is to get to the end of the river.

    • 2

Avoid the ghosts and skulls. Every ghost or skull that you run into will take a little off your life bar, which can cause a premature death. The Sorrow will call ghosts to come after you, depending on how many enemy soldiers you have killed (not including bosses) up to this point in the game, with a maximum of 100.

    • 3

Dodge The Sorrow's attacks. The Sorrow will throw out little "beams" of phantom energy at you. If these hit you, they will do a large amount of damage. Avoid them by walking at an upward, diagonal angle on the screen. If you walk at an angle, it is nearly impossible for the "beams" to connect with you. The Sorrow will stretch both arms out and shout at you before he throws the beam. This is your signal to dodge.

    • 4

Use the revival pill. When you reach the end of the river, The Sorrow will tell you that you do not belong here and drain what is left of your life bar. You will be on the ground in front of him. The "Game Over" screen will slowly fade in, but do not select either "continue" or "exit." Instead, bring up your item menu with the "L2" button and select the revival pill. This will bring you back to life to continue the game.
